Stop Smoking

Why Stop Smoking?

Women Smoking

Health is one of the reasons to stop smoking, but there are many others. For a list of other convincing reasons to stop smoking, read on...

Health: this is the most obvious reason to stop smoking. Click here to find out why smoking is bad for your health.

Money: smoking gets more and more expensive. Think about the things you could buy when you quit smoking. When you do give up smoking, it's a good idea to have a money jar where you put in the money you would normally spend on cigarettes. After some time you can spend that money to buy something you like, as a reward for you giving up smoking.

Time: smoking breaks take up a lot of time, time that's better spend on something worthwhile.

Looks: smoking makes your teeth look yellow and your skin look gray.

Impact on Others:

  • Secondhand smoke affects everybody, but especially children. It can cause hearth, lung and breathing disorders. Don't smoke in your home and car if you have children, or better yet: stop smoking!
  • Smoking causes a bad breath. It's not fun for your partner to be with someone who stinks.
  • It's very important to stop smoking when you are pregnant. Non-smokers get healthier babies then smokers. Here are some of the risks you take if you smoke while pregnant: you can lose your baby, the baby might be smaller, more restless, gets sick more and is more likely to have learning problems.

Stress: smoking causes stress. Many people think the opposite, that smoking eases stress, but this is not true. It is true that smokers experience a reduction of stress when they light up a cigarette, but that is because they are addicted to nicotine. Compare it to wearing a pair of shoes that is too small. It hurts when you wear them and it gives you a relief when you take them of. Better would be not to wear a pair of shoes that is too small for you.

Smokers worry about when their next cigarette will be and this causes stress. There are more and more places that are smoke-free these days and this gives a smoker less opportunities to light up a cigarette.

Smell and Taste: stop smoking and get your smell and taste back.
